10 Best PlayStation 2 Multiplayer Games

2. The Warriors

With Rockstar truly coming to prominence on the PS2 thanks to its GTA III series, it's easy to forget that they had other fantastic games on the platform. Ok, actually Manhunt wasn't fantastic at all, but The Warriors - set in the same universe as the cult 80s movie - was. The Warriors is, as you'd imagine, a beat-'em-up game that pretty much brings games like Streets of Rage and Final Fight into the 3D arena. It feels like a throwback to 90s games and 80s movies, but given that Rockstar polish with satisfying combat, an awesome soundtrack, and excellent presentation. If you're playing through the single-player campaign, then a friend can jump in at any point by pressing the Start button, at which point you can effectively play through the whole campaign - or just mess around in the open world - together. You can rob stores together, take on rival gangs, and there neat little mechanics where you and your friend can do team moves on enemies, or uncuff each other if one of you's been caught by a cop. There are also several other competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, such as old classics Survival and Capture the Flag, a Royal Rumble on a rooftop, or a wheelchair race through the city streets.
