How do you depict the story of a monstrous, psychologically disturbed mother trying to murder her own child? Well, you could go down the arty route of creating a serious exploration of the subject, OR you could do what Super Meat Boy developer Edmund McMillen did and make an dark, addictive and frankly hilarious twin-stick shooter. With its endearing art style and simple gameplay, Rebirth is the updated, definitive version of the basement-based shooter, with more items, power-ups, bosses and the inclusion of local co-op multiplayer. As you traverse different rooms in the basement, you fight against cute, lovingly designed, but ultimately utterly horrifying enemies like tumours, spiders, and the deformed fat leg of Isaac's 'Mom'. The real challenge stems from Rebirth's rogue-like quality, so once you die it's game over and back to the start for you.
