Although the God of War series may be about to go through a huge upheaval, the original three games and the ensuing spin-offs are all fantastic action games synonymous with the PlayStation brand.

Kratos may not be much of a character (well, until the new game that is), but he certainly delivers when it comes to action. God of War's combat may not be the most complicated of the genre, but it still manages to make you feel strong with brutal combat, flashy scenarios and battles against larger-than-life foes.

God of War has been synonymous with PlayStation ever since the second generation of consoles, although Kratos' impact has largely been undermined because of his lack of presence on the PlayStation 4 so far. That doesn't remove how important the first three games in the series have been, and how beloved they are to fans of the franchise.

Here's hoping that when the newest God of War hits this year, Kratos gets back to being one of the biggest things on PlayStation.
