10 Best Pokémon Appearances In Detective Pikachu
3. Mr. Mime
Mr. Mime is one of the least popular Pokémon out there. The humanoid ‘mons never get that much love to begin with, and Mime’s design is one of the goofiest.
The anime, where Ash’s mom kept one as a butler/pet didn’t endear it to anyone either, and despite being the powerful Psychic type, he’s got the weakest line of all Psychics in Kanto. Simply put, unless you’re a contrarian, you probably don’t like Mr. Mime.
That’s why it’s strange that they’re even in this movie, much less given a scene to star in. However, it turns out that Mr. Mime is a brilliant example of the filmmakers understanding Pokémon.
Garchomp, Milotic and Zoroark are all massively beloved ‘mons, but there’s no room for them in the movie as they don’t bring anything to the table. Mr. Mime, despite a lack of fans, demonstrably does.
Though it’s nobody’s favourite, that might change after some brilliant body acting and funny slapstick in Detective Pikachu. It’s silly, no doubt, and the burning alive joke might be too much for some, but they wrung every inch of potential out of Mime.
After stealing the show in the trailer, there was still enough material for the movie itself.
