2. Fallout 3
It was inevitable. What better way is there to build yourself up for the latest installment in the Fallout series than to play the one that most closely resembles it. Set in the wastelands of Washington DC, Fallout 3 is the game that regenerated the series after it spent many years in the wilderness. Plenty of people have argued about the games uptake of a fashionable first-person perspective, and whether it was really the right direction for the series to take. But while it wouldnt be unfair to call Fallout 3 Elder Scrolls with Guns, the game was immensely popular, giving players free roam in an unprecedentedly vast and foreboding post-apocalyptic landscape. Similarity to Fallout 4: The resemblances between Fallout 3 and 4 are so plentiful that many commentators are concerned that the latter isnt doing enough to differentiate itself. That remains to be seen, but its also a testament to the seven-year-old Fallout 3 that it can still hold its own against its technically far superior successor.
