10 Best Post-Apocalyptic Games To Play Until Fallout 4 Arrives

10. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy

Coming out just over a year before Fallout 3, STALKER kind of condemned itself to becoming a cult classic rather than a blockbuster hit. But this sombre survival-horror shooter, set in an barren, irradiated area around Chernobyl known as 'The Zone', has its own merits. There's little to separate the three STALKER games, which came out in successive years between 2007 and 2009. All of them are gruelling and difficult, with Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat even requiring you to eat to stay nourished and healthy. While each game has a central storyline, there are plenty of side-quests to complete around the open-world zone, taking you to heavily-guarded raider bases, ghost towns, and ruined building complexes filled with unspeakable horrors. The STALKER modding community is bustling too, so with a bit of tweaking you can pretty much make it look like a current-gen game. Similarity to Fallout 4: Plenty. You could easily argue that STALKER is like a more hostile, unforgiving version of Fallout. It's got less humour, less flair, and less charm, but all these things make it feel like a more authentic survival experience, rather than a post-apocalyptic setting governed by mechanics that players will be instantly familiar and comfortable with.
