10 Best PS2 Games Of All Time
1. Spider-Man 2
It’s not often that movie tie-in games are held in a positive light. Most of them are crap, quickly churned out cash-grabs that rely solely on their movie’s popularity for sales. However, one game refused to follow these norms and instead delivered one of the greatest titles of all time. That game was Spider-Man 2.
Loosely following the plot of Sam Raimi’s fantastic film by the same title, Spider-Man 2 was the quintessential superhero game of its generation. We were given a large open-world New York City to explore, a rogues gallery of Spidey villains to defeat and the best web-swinging mechanics we would see in a game for over a decade.
It was that web-swinging that really made this game stand out. No longer were you shooting webs into the clouds and swinging willy-nilly in mid-air. Now your webbing would need to connect with obstacles around the world, including skyscrapers, streetlights and even the odd helicopter. The physics and variety of combos and tricks you could pull off were unprecedented for their time.
Between then and now, we’ve had some decent Spider-Man games and some absolutely horrendous ones. Spider-Man PS4 is surely top dog, but if you’re looking for a more retro experience, Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation 2 absolutely has you covered.
