10 Best Resident Evil Games You Didn't Play

1. Resident Evil 1.5

Packaged with the DualShock rerelease of the original Resident Evil was a video advertising the upcoming sequel.

Off the back of their first experiences with the t-Virus, they were ravenously hungry for the next instalment. The Resident Evil 2 that they got however bore very little resemblance to the one that they had previously seen.

About 80% of the way into production of RE2, work was halted and reset as several important figureheads on the project were not satisfied with the game's direction. It lacked soul and connection to the original.

Many core elements were retained, such as the majority of the cast and the location of Raccoon City police station, but the story needed to be refocused. The RPD was swapped from a modern office block to something more cryptic and strange and one of the two playable characters morphed from Elza Walker to Claire Redfield, sister of original protagonist Chris.

Much like the GameBoy Color port, unfinished versions of what has been dubbed “1.5” do exist on the internet to offer a deeper look at this game that could’ve been but never was.

Considering the massive success of Resi 2, which had a huge impact on Capcom’s trajectory of making games for home consoles, the right change was made. All the same, Resident Evil 1.5 provides an interesting look at what could’ve been a very different timeline for the Resident Evil series.
