The world of Detroit: Become Human is decidedly different from our own, while also mirroring some of the technological developments that we've been subjected to.

Set in the aforementioned city, the game is a commentary on the use of artificial intelligence, and as such stars three distinctive android personalities who each discover their sentience as the story unfolds.

Beginning life as a tech demo in 2012, Kara is a housekeeping android who is quickly tasked with ensuring the safety of a little girl, Alice, from her abusive father. Immediately, she's a comforting presence, and assumes the role of a parent that Alice lacked for so long.

Their journey towards the harsh climates of Canada is tumultuous, and paths can deviate harshly depending on the player's choices, but Kara's superb character development is one of the few constants of the tale.

From mundane household tasks to full-on motherhood, Kara's responsibilities shift drastically, and though it's clear she's making it up as she goes along, it's clear that Alice's best interests are at heart.

Detroit: Become Human is a polarising experience, and creator David Cage is never one to sacrifice creativity for consistency, but the way Kara and Alice's dependency --and eventual friendship-- unfolds is truly memorable.
