10 Best Skill-Check Bosses In Gaming History

7. Giganto (Sonic Frontiers)

At this point, you'd be forgiven for thinking Skill-Check Bosses only exist in the hardest of video games. And while that's generally true, there are some notable exceptions.

Sonic Frontiers may not be known for its high level of difficulty (its absurdly hard DLC aside), but its first boss - the Evangelion-inspired Giganto - plays a crucial role in instructing the player on the importance of parrying.

Simply wading in to attack him results in the mechanical kaiju repeatedly swatting Sonic away, making it impossible to finish the fight before the time limit expires. Instead, the player needs to watch out for Giganto's attacks and successfully parry them to continue piling on the pressure.

Truthfully, doing so is a simple task - especially when compared to most of the other entrants in this article. However, the battle against Giganto is arguably the most purely entertaining one in this particular Top Ten.

Watching Sonic go full Super Saiyan on a colossal robot while "Undefeatable" (the best Sonic track since 2001's "Live and Learn") blasts in the background is the coolest the blue blur has been since he was introduced to starry-eyed kids back in the 90's, and is sure to bring a grin to even the most jaded of Sonic fans.

(And lord knows there's been a lot to be jaded about).
