10. Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars
One of the most enjoyably original games released for the Super Nintendo, Super Mario RPG featured some excellent music. The music was composed by Yoko Shimomura, known for her work on Street Fighter II. This jubilant soundtrack features a mix of lighter, happier tunes and darker, more ominous songs, however, could be largely described as bouncy and fun. Instrumentation varies from marimbas and pan flutes, to organs and accordions. Shomomura does an excellent job of portraying the themes of the game, helping to develop the plot and setting the atmosphere of the various locations visited throughout this enjoyable game. For a few of the songs she incorporated sections of music from Super Mario Bros, recreated with deeper levels of instrumentation and rhythm.Three songs from the Final Fantasy series are also woven into the aural tapestry of this soundtrack. Super Mario RPG was nominated for the Nintendo Power award for Best Soundtrack, but lost to N64's "Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire."
