The world of Deadlands is an odd one. Set in the golden age of the west, this game is a bit more than just a spaghetti western simulator. In this alternative history there are a few differences to our own. In this world known as the weird west, history is the same as ours up until 3rd July 1863. On this date a group of Native Americans, led by the Sioux shaman known as Raven, began a ritual to remove the European invaders. This ritual created a conduit to the spiritual realm, opening up a path for a group of malicious creatures known as the Reckoners.

The Reckoners caused a wave of chaos to engulf the world. Their main purpose was to create horrible abominations that would strike fear into the population. Around a decade later another discovery was found, Ghost Rock. This substance burns hotter and longer than coal and is useful as an alchemical ingredient. This is used to power fantastic and futuristic technology far beyond that of the time. This and the rediscovery of magic make Deadlands a great new setting.

Deadlands has a unique way of building characters. The players will have to draw cards from a deck in order to decide on the character's traits. Another great addition is Fate Chips. These are drawn at the beginning of the session and can be spent on re-rolls or the prevention of physical damage. The GM or Marshall can hand these out when the players roleplay their characters well. The twist is that these can also be given to the enemies, making them more dangerous.
