10 Best Video Game Characters Of The New Generation
8. The Transistor - Transistor

With any luck you'll have heard of - or even better played - Bastion, SuperGiant Games' phenomenal little title from 2011 that saw "A kid, his hammer, and a world gone all kinds of wrong" intertwined in one of the most meticulously hand-crafted titles you'll ever come across.
So come time for their big followup, SuperGiant decided they'd change things up in the narrative delivery department. Previous narrator Logan Cunningham would once again be the primary voice you'd hear throughout the game, but as your heroine Red has become mute, his character's spirit embodies the titular Transistor; a whopping great sword that constantly talks and interacts with the world around you. In a genius move if you play on PS4, the controller's speaker actually delivers his dialogue too, with the LED light blinking in tandem with what's happening on-screen. So far it's the only remotely worthwhile use of that feature we've seen.
The overall narrative is one delivered in a more complex method than even Destiny is attempting, as integral story elements and character backstories are locked away behind certain combinations of abilities for the Transistor that won't make themselves known unless you know what you're doing. What makes the whole production so exquisitely polished is both through the artwork and especially Cunningham's delivery, whose raspy tonality beds out the mystical, sci-fi world as you stumble through every corner and back alley.
