10 Best Video Game Characters Of The New Generation

3. Vella Tartine - Broken Age

Tim Schafer is known for a great many things, and not one of them anything less than awesome, bringing us a slew of hilarious titles like Secret of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Costume Quest and Brutal Legend.

However considering he made his name on point n' click adventures, it would be over a decade from Grim Fandango's 1998 release until just this past January he finally returned to the genre. Although with the amount of unique ideas and fantastically innovate art aesthetics that pad out Broken Age, it's definitely well worth the wait.

Vella is one of two characters you can choose to play as, with the latter - Shay, voiced by Elijah Wood - instead being too much of a pansy to be memorable for anything other than an over-mothered wet blanket. Spoilers aside Shay does get his time to shine, but as the plot revolves around the idea of a gigantic beast that must be appeased by offering up young girls, Vella's selection for this leads her to question its very nature, journeying from town to town in search of answers.

Schafer's wry wit and memorable writing skills are easily identifiable as Vella quickly excels as having the half of the story you care the most about, and after a few hours in her company you'll be joining the rest of us in waiting for the second half of the game to release at some point later this year.
