10 Best Video Game Consoles - Ranked By Exclusives

7. Nintendo GameCube

Best exclusive titles: Super Smash Bros Melee, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime series, Pikmin, Mario Kart Double Dash, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Resident Evil Zero, Luigi's Mansion. Commercially, the GameCube marks the 'lost years' of Nintendo - a fate shared by any console that had the misfortune to compete with the best-selling games console of all time, the PlayStation 2 - but looking back it still had an excellent collection of exclusives. Super Mario made an appearance in Sunshine, which, despite not being the strongest 3D Mario game, remains one of the best 3D platformers of all time. Zelda, meanwhile, made a couple of excellent, varied outings in Skyward Sword and Wind Waker - both standing the test of time with some of the greatest gameplay and inventive visual styles in the series. Mario Kart Double Dash and Super Smash Bros Melee brought both their much-loved franchises into the fifth console generation, and Nintendo brought us a quirky take on the strategy genre with the new Pikmin series, which really hit its stride with the refined, much-improved sequel. In a rare move for consoles of the time, Nintendo pluckily picked up PS1 hits Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil, working with Konami and Capcom to remaster them for the GameCube, with fine results. The biggest big-name catch for the console, however, was Star Wars space shooter Rogue Squadron II - which remains arguably the greatest Star Wars game of all time.
