10 Best Video Game Consoles - Ranked By Exclusives

4. SNES

Best exclusive titles: Super Mario World/2, Super Mario Kart, F Zero, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV/V/VI, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Super Mario RPG, Kirby's Dream Land/2/3, Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Pilotwings, ActRaiser, Super Castlevania IV. In the 90s, people would shrug at you when you talked about 'console exclusives', because it was a given that a console library would be mostly made up of games unavailable anywhere else. While the NES resurrected the games industry and spoiled gamers with a stellar collection of high-quality titles donning the Seal of Quality, the SNES made huge jumps forward. It arguably introduced the concept of the remaster by refreshing the first three Mario games, but on top of that it truly engraved Nintendo's core franchises into legend. There were the superb Mario World games which perfected 2D platforming, split-screen gaming was popularised with the likes of F-Zero and Super Mario Kart, while ambitious new IPs were successfully introduced in the form of Pilotwings and Starfox. Stepping away from the big-hitting franchises, third-party exclusives like Super Castlevania IV, the underrated ActRaiser, and the Super Bomberman series - the second game of which is still the best to date - are just some of the titles that made the SNES special. Then there was that RPG roster, as SNES' timeless 16-bit colour palette and audio capabilities brought the worlds of Final Fantasy IV, V and VI and Chrono Trigger to life, while the likes of Earthbound and Secret of Mana also embellished its library.
