Ask any gamer from a certain age group, and you are likely to hear them all agree on one thing; most games made today are just too easy. Gamers that grew up in a certain era, getting their start on titles like Contra and The Legend of Zelda remember a time when games weren't about hand-holding. They remember that time fondly, as it made them into the hardened gamer that they are now, so it seems likely that the designers at FromSoftware are from the same generation. They'd have to be, as it explains why a game series as difficult as Dark Souls is as loved and hated as it is. FromSoftware was smart to pounce on this aspect of the industry, as there is an entire community of gamers who remember a time when Metroid never told them where to go and refused to give them any help to do so. Dark Souls is of the same ilk, as it sets you off within an open-world and asks you to prepare to die, as you will numerous times. FromSoftware's Dark Souls series is an incredible success story, spawning the recently released sequel and an army of ravenous fans everywhere who are gluttons for virtual punishment.
