10 Best Video Game Openings NO ONE Talks About

8. Crysis

When Crysis first hit the scene, it was the most advanced game on the market for YEARS, with it taking almost a decade for any graphics hardware to be able to handle it at full power. The meme existed for a reason: Can It Play Crysis was a legitimate question for the graphics card market for a hot minute there.

So with that in mind, one would think that the opening sequence for such a powerhouse of a game would be something bombastic and explodey, to really show off what this game has got under the hood.

Instead, Crysis starts off impressive, yet subdued, with your character moving silently through thick jungle underbrush, the full majesty of the game ahead being slowly drip-fed to you until it finally reveals itself completely.

The tropical island that is this game's setting, is shown bit by bit before the player character makes it to the edge of a cliff and beholds the island in all of its splendor, a serene sight from above hiding an intense fight for survival just beneath its trees.

It was a bold show of restraint to introduce itself like this, but it made Crysis all the more memorable as a result.
