The opening to the first Knights Of The Old Republic is iconic to Star Wars fans, but the dark horse of Star Wars games - KOTOR 2 - also has a pretty damn good opening.

KOTOR 2 starts off with the Ebon Hawk, the ship from the first game, left adrift in space, with all of its original crew mysteriously gone. In its place is the old woman Kreia, and your character, The Exile. You then wake up on an abandoned mining colony, with Kreia talking to you in your head, telling you that things have gone sideways and you need to start running.

It's a wonderfully atmospheric opening level, as the game reintroduces you to the controls of KOTOR and all the new bells and whistles that KOTOR 2 adds. It also establishes right away just what you'll be up against in the game ahead as the main antagonist of the game immediately catches up to you and chases you throughout the facility.

You get new buddy Atton Rand, make it to the Ebon Hawk, and set off for one of the most divisive journeys in the franchise, with an excellent opening level behind you making sure you're ready for what's ahead.
