10 Best Video Games Of 2017 You Haven't Played
2. Warframe
Warframe originally released in 2013, but the version that exists today is nothing like that.
Actually being one of the biggest runaway successes of the generation, developers Digital Extremes have gone from strength to strength thanks to maintaining a free game with a microtransaction system that actually respects their burgeoning fanbase. Now Warframe is in the top 10 most-played Steam games, and it's all down to having a solid system of third-person shooting and melee combat, consistently worthwhile loot drops and an addictive crafting system that lets you create the vast majority of items you'd otherwise pay for in many other games.
2017 has seen the Plains of Eidolon expansion take Warframe into open-world territory, though the reason so many people keep coming back is simply because the firing of guns, slicing of swords and deploying of special powers feels so.damn.good.
Whether Warframe counts as a 2017 release off the back of one of its biggest overhauls dropping on November 14th is up for debate, but it's already nominated in The Game Awards' "Best Ongoing Game", so those discussions are only just beginning.
