If you'd said back in 2017 that the "F*** the Oscars!" guy would go on to make hands-down the most essential co-op game of all time - with some of the most consistently innovative game design ever seen - well, a handful of us would've said "Of course".

Because for as much as Josef Fares' overblown public self gets a bit carried away in the best possible respect, his trajectory from Swedish indie filmmaker to Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out and now this, is genuinely extraordinary.

For It Takes Two then, we've got another game mandated to be in co-op, whether online or in person, and it doesn't feel like Fares held a single idea back.

There are just so many cool implementations of dual agency in a game space, from one player firing nails into a wall so the other can climb up them, to using a boat's turret while the other person steers, to a ton of minigames in between that get more enjoyably competitive.

It Takes Two's animation and game feel are also top-tier - like jaw-droppingly competent for Hazelight's second game as a studio.
