10 Best Weapons In DOOM History - Ranked

9. Plasma Gun / Rifle - Doom & Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal Shotgun

The plasma weapon holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. It was the first energy weapon you encountered in Doom, spraying fiery death in a line of beautiful blue and white plasma bursts. It was a great weapon, even if it did resemble an accordion for some odd reason.

It was a fun weapon to play with, giving you some tactical ability as it pushed enemies back, letting someone who was handy with a mouse keep up a direct stream of fire. It could also light up dark areas, at the cost of precious plasma cells.

The designers of Doom Eternal must have been feeling nostalgic, as the Plasma Rifle (as it's now called) made a comeback in the old accordion-looking style as opposed to the sleek, exotic looking weapon it had been in Doom 2016. It is still a very powerful weapon in its newest incarnation, being able to not only defeat shields, but overload them, resulting in splash explosion damage.

The Eternal version can also fire a Microwave Beam that has the ability not only to lock an enemy in place but to slowly deplete their health until they explode, killing them and damaging any other enemies in the vicinity.

Although the sound and graphics are worlds better in the Eternal version, there is still something satisfying about the feel and the sound of the original Plasma Gun.
