10 Best Western RPGs Of The Noughties

1. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic
Bethesda

Bethesda may be the butt of many jokes in the gaming industry today, but the reason they got so popular was that they offered something few other companies did. They gave the player a truly epic game world. Many people may have started their journey with The Elder Scrolls playing Skyrim or Oblivion, but the series' finest moment came before these two and it was called Morrowind.

As in all Elder Scrolls games, you start as a prisoner. You are on a journey to the island of Vvardenfell and after some distressing dreams on the way you are quickly released. What follows is a journey that will take you from a simple ex-prisoner to the saviour of the entire land.

Of course, like in all Elder Scrolls games you don’t have to do this. You are free to journey off in any direction and try to make a name for yourself. You can join factions, religions, and even the army. As you do missions and explore, you will find that Vvardenfell is a beautiful but alien world. It is the pure freedom of this game that make it great. Freedom to explore at your whim.

Games in the series came before and after Morrowind, but none quite topped the scale of the third entry's journey. If you have never played it, you've yet to treat yourself to the best western RPG of the 2000s.
