10 Best Western RPGs Of The Noughties

2. Deus Ex

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic
Ion Storm

Do you believe in conspiracies? Do you think the Illuminati is real? Well, even if you are a hard skeptic, Deus Ex will make you ask yourself some uncomfortable questions. Set in the not too distant future of 2052, Deus Ex sees you play as JC Denton. You take on the role of a UNATCO agent, one who will go from stopping terrorists to uncovering world-shattering mysteries.

Deus Ex took its influence from other classic games such as System Shock 2, importing already great RPG systems, and improving on them. A lot of new players may be put off by the early 2000 graphics and the strange combat system, but if you stick with it you will never look at the world the same again.

Deus Ex uses a skill system, meaning that you can upgrade your accuracy and effectiveness with certain weapon types and abilities. Without this training, landing a shot with a weapon feels almost impossible. When upgraded however, you feel what you are: a super-powered cyborg.

Sure, the game may not have shiny graphics and the voice acting can sometimes seem… comical, but behind all that is what may be one of the best RPGs ever made.
