10 Best Western RPGs Of The Noughties

9. Borderlands

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic
Gearbox Software

Let us look at an entry that is very different from Arcanum, but just as interesting. Borderlands is an action RPG that is set on the alien world of Pandora. You play one of four vault hunters as they explore the planet and search for long-lost treasure, but not all is as it seems and you may find yourself the target of some powerful groups.

Borderlands has a number of skills for its characters, with each one having multiple play styles. However, this isn’t the end of Borderlands' RPG systems, with a majority of the damage you do based on the weapons you can find. Borderlands randomly generates a lot of its weapons and their effects, meaning you can find both pitifully bad and fantastically overpowered weaponry.

The DLC released for Borderlands further improves the base game. It adds in many new landscapes and interesting characters to the already wacky world.

Borderlands may not have complex and in-depth RPG mechanics like many games on this list, but it does have enough to give the player an interesting and exciting gaming experience. Plus, you can play four-player co-op. What’s not to love?
