If you’re an RPG fan and you see that Bioware is developing a new game, you generally become excited, and this was no different for the release of Dragon Age Origins.

Dragon Age Origins is an RPG that uses an old-style party system like many classic RPGs, but does it in such a way that makes it feel fresh. You can see why it is considered a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

As a member of the Grey Wardens, you attempt to bring together the continent to fight the horrific Darkspawn. When creating your character, you must pick from a number of races and classes. These can affect many different things in the world beyond your abilities. Issues of social class and racism are often addressed, and the in-depth idea of your background and race heavily impacting gameplay worked really well. This sets it apart from other games of the era.

As you journey through the world, you will gather a ragtag team of different adventurers. These will come from all walks of life and allow you to form a team to your liking.

The Dragon Age series would go on to rise in popularity as subsequent games were released. We haven’t seen one be released for a while - maybe it’s time.
