Ubisoft's launch title was far from a perfect game (it certainly won't win any beauty contests) but it's a fantastically tense and unique horror title that puts the GamePad to great use. It was mostly used for scanning the environment and real-time inventory management, with the latter adding a whole new layer of horror to combat encounters. Switching weapons required the player to stop what they were doing and look at the GamePad to rummage around in their rucksack, all while being vulnerable to attack. Death had a real consequence, with players losing all of the items their character was carrying. The only way to get them back is to go where they died and kill the zombie version of their previous self. If they just so happened to die in an area filled with zombies, then good luck getting your items back armed with just a cricket bat and a few bullets. ZombiU at times was sadistic, with its survivor mode that limits you to just one life bringing it up to Dark Souls' level of evil. It's not a game for everyone, but it's a must buy for fans of horror, zombies and post-apocalyptic London.
