The first Bayonetta was a massive hit with critics and fans of the hack 'n slash genre, but like a lot of Platinum Games' titles it didn't sell that well. Thankfully, Nintendo saw the appeal in everyone's favourite scantily clad witch and decided to fund and publish its sequel. It was a gamble that paid off in dividends - Bayonetta 2's brilliance led to it being one of the highest rated games of 2014 by critics. And with good reason, too - it's an incredible game that mercilessly punishes tiny errors in timing with the heat of a thousand suns. It may be difficult, but it's always fair and failure can never be blamed on a game that's this well designed. Bayonetta 2 is a high budget, AAA title that can proudly stand its ground against the best games on rival platforms. Let's hope its success will lead to Nintendo funding future Platinum Games projects.
