10 Best World War 2 Video Games Of All time
5. Battlefield 1942
The game that put the Battlefield series on the map, 1942 established most of the core staples of the franchise that still make it such a respected and revered property today.
Birthing one of the most popular multiplayer modes ever, playing either alone offline or with friends online was a blast, capturing the scale of the war like no other WW2 shooter really had at the time.
Featuring both infantry as well as vehicular combat, the FPS gave players multiple ways to approach every match, rather than just handing them a rifle and funnelling them down a set route.
There was no story or any real campaign to speak of, but Battlefield 1942 captured the back-and-forth ebbs and flows of World War 2 battles better than most narrative-driven single-player games at the time.
