10 Best Xbox Series X Games (So Far)

8. The Ascent

Another hidden gem found on Game Pass, The Ascent is a challenging RPG twin-stick shooter set in a neon-spattered cyberpunk dystopia.

Whether playing alone or teaming up with friends, this title offers players a host of hectic combat encounters, more character and skill customisation than players could ask for, and an atmospheric world to explore in which rain and neon lighting play a big part in establishing the mood.

The visuals are the star of the show here, something which is even more impressive considering the game’s team was primarily comprised of 12 people. The attention to detail in each environment is spectacular, which makes the dozen or so hours spent in this world an immersive and enthralling experience.

Though The Ascent is playable on last generation Xbox consoles (there's currently no PlayStation version), the Series X is where the game shines brightest. Running at a smooth 60fps compared to 30fps on older consoles, the Series X does use dynamic resolution to maintain the performance. Despite this, the image is still the most detailed on Series X.

Load times are likewise instantaneous on Series consoles, especially compared to the painfully slow wait times players will be faced with on Xbox One.
