10 Best Xbox Series X Games (So Far)
2. Gears 5
Another one of Xbox’s flagship series, Gears Of War has been delighting fans with its gritty and gory combat ever since it launched on the Xbox 360 in 2006. Fast forward 15 years later and the Gears franchise is still a staple in any Xbox owner’s library.
Now on its fifth mainline instalment, Gears 5 shifted its focus to new character Kait Diaz. It was a more personal story than anything the series has attempted before as it set against the emerging conflict between humanity and The Swarm, a newly evolved threat.
The eye-widening visuals and frantic, head-popping action were stellar on the Xbox One. Nevertheless, the team at the Coalition went all-out on the next gen version by implementing a staggering number of changes that heightened the presentation and gameplay.
Enhanced shadows and lighting effects coupled with higher resolution textures and increased detail at distances, the visuals are littered with a host of subtle differences that make for more immersive environments.
The biggest change, though, is the implementation of 120fps in multiplayer mode. For those with the right display, the higher framerate is solid and consequently makes the breakneck pace of Gears matches faster and smoother than ever.
