2. Final Fantasy XV - Can It Save The Series?
It's possible the answer to that question is just a straight-up "No", as depending on how fondly you view the older PS1 titles alongside how much you loathe what Square Enix have done since, subjectively that may mean nothing will ever come close to exploring Midgar with Cloud and friends or escaping the Evil Forest in FF IX. Once the harbingers of otherworld entertainment thanks to gorgeously-realised universes full of characters and a mythology you always wanted more of, when was the last time you really, really cared about a Final Fantasy title? Since FF X there's not been a truly great entry into the canon, and that's discarding the fact plenty people still straight-up hated Tidus and co.'s adventures. Through online-only expansions and linearly progressed tales in FF XIII - and even costume-switching-focussed spin-off Lightning Returns - Square don't seem to have a clue what made people love the older games so much. Hopefully that's until now, where XV looks to be a really cool combo of more sci-fi styled creatures, a deliberately progressive sense of traversal thanks to driving a car everywhere with a loveable set of characters you'll get to know inside out.
