10 Big Worries That Could Derail 2015’s Most Hyped Video Games
9. No Mans Sky - Is It Another Minecraft?
Obviously 'another Minecraft' isn't a bad thing, and it must be said No Man's Sky looks spectacular all things considered. The problem, is who out there actually plays Minecraft for extended periods of time, outside of younger players? The idea of an sci-fi open-universe teaming with possibilities is downright revolutionary, but if there's no narrative drive or endgame in sight other than 'go here and do this because... why not?' it's a sad reality that 90% of players will give up after a few hours. Destiny essentially had this problem even with its paltry semblance of a story, as only players with a huge amount of spare time or the inclination to keep playing for the sake of it will get their money's worth. Fans of Bungie's money-machine are split right down the middle precisely because of that unravelling of purpose within their game world, and despite No Man's world-building, combat, terraforming and trading, if the whole thing is simply a gigantic play area 'just because', you can file it under Minecraft, Disney Infinity and Elite: Dangerous for the majority of opinion right now.
