10 Biggest Disappointments From E3 2018
1. Cyberpunk 2077 Being First-Person
This... was unexpected.
Now, obviously we're dealing with CD Project RED; genuinely one of the most talented studios on the planet right now, with one of the best games of all time - The Witcher 3 - as their last project. But, well, Cyberpunk 2077 loses a ton of its appeal once you take away the idea of it being "a sci-fi Witcher", as all the gameplay ideas that come from applying Wild Hunt's mechanics to a future setting are lost.
Perhaps this was the objective all along; to differentiate immediately by definition. By going first-person, Cyberpunk becomes its own beast. Its style of gameplay has to be something completely different, because you couldn't "do" The Witcher's combat/enemy dodging and group management in first-person.
This latter theory is a double-edged sword though, because now we know group combat, environmental interactions and any sense of platforming while in combat or as part of missions is likely out, or won't feel very natural to control.
Going first-person will benefit the intensity of many a set-piece, but you have to question the decision to switch genres so blatantly, when clearly the studio were just hitting their stride as masters of the third-person RPG.
