10 Biggest Gaming News Stories That Shocked The World

9. GTA's Hot Coffee Scandal

Almost as infamous as the game it came from is awesome, the fabled Hot Coffee incident of 2005 comes straight from the hidden code of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. For those who are unaware, this all began quite innocently. In San Andreas, main character Carl "C.J" Johnson can get together with a number of different women, wining and dining them before taking them back to his place for some antics afterwards. In the final cut of the game, the latter of these activities would simply cut to outside the house with a bit of shaky cam and some horrendous sex-talk. Unfortunately for Rockstar, this wasn't originally the plan. As usually happens, gamers soon took to delving through the code of San Andreas to figure out what made it tick. This was when someone stumbled across a section of code known as Hot Coffee, a canned part of the game that would actually let the player engage in sexual activities with the woman they'd taken on a date. As soon as this was announced several politicians - including Hilary Clinton - jumped on the 'video games are evil' bandwagon, and San Andreas was actually pulled from sale in several outlets due to the sexual content that wasn't even normally accessible. If this section of code was active in the main game, perhaps this controversy would have been understandable, but since it wasn't, this was just merely an excuse for the politicians to get stuck in, blowing everything out of proportion for the sake of some vote-garnering finger-pointing.
