10 Biggest Graphical Leaps Between Video Game Sequels
8. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011) To Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016)
There are a lot of games in this list where sequels have gone through different generations, maybe even a different developer. Initially, I looked at comparing Deus Ex: Invisible War to Human Revolution where both, a new developer and generation occurred. However, even though the jump between those graphics and even core gameplay elements were quite drastic, the biggest of which being emergent gameplay mechanics, I don’t think it was as worthy as the jump to Mankind Divided.
To this day, almost four years later, Mankind Divided still requires a beefy PC to run on the highest settings and still doesn't play smoothly on current-gen consoles. This isn’t because it’s poorly optimised but because of the sheer quality of the textures, the character models and the world you can experience. There’s a slight shift in detail between gameplay levels and the hub world of Prague, as in the latter you’ll be doing more talking, sleuthing and exploring, as opposed to fierce action. But it’s fair to say you will be spoilt for choice in the level of detail on NPC’s faces, the amount of routes to take, areas to explore and side-quests tightly woven into the different areas of Prague.
