Because the ocean is mostly unexplored, many zoologists believe there could be as many as ten million organisms underwater yet to be discovered. Since we have no idea what creatures could be lurking down there, you can understand why the sea can be a very frightening place.

Few games encapsulate the horrors of the sea better than Subnautica. Throughout your adventure, you must explore the bowels of this oceanic world to find supplies. Although Subnautica is classified in the action-adventure genre, things move into the horror category when you encounter a creature miles below the world's surface.

Granted, Subnautica boasts many unsettling monsters, but nothing compares to the Reaper Leviathan. Because of its distinctive roar, you can always tell when this squid-like colossus is nearby. If you get too close, the mighty cephalopod will envelope you in its tentacles, condemning you to a watery grave.

However, the scariest part isn't seeing the Reaper; it's when you think you've got away.

When you've seemingly evaded the beast you breathe a sigh of relief, believing you just had a narrow escape. Seconds later, the marine behemoth drags you back with its many limbs, this time giving you no chance to slip away. Tragically, you are forced to stare at its leering face before succumbing to your grisly fate.
