10 Biggest Lies Gamers Tell Themselves
6. I'll Just Play This MMORPG Casually
Every serial MMO addict (of which I was once, until I finally managed to kick the habit last year) will tell you that MMO's are addictive. Highly addictive. Telling yourself that you're going to play one casually is just a lie.
Scientifically, MMO's are addictive. They're designed to promise a lot to the player but deliver it over the course of 100 hours or so at the very minimum. There are rewards sure, but you've damn sure got to work for them. By this logic, if you want to do anything of note or worth, you're going to have to clock up hours in the triple digits and even the quadruples if you aim to start raiding.
No one plays MMO's casually. If that were the case, there'd be no market for MMO's which are themselves designed for a specific breed of hardcore gamer. If you're not one of those gamers and you decide to start an MMO - however casually - you soon will be, unless by the grace of god you find yourself bored by the whole thing and quit before level 10.
