10 Biggest Scams In Gaming History

8. Kinect

THE DAY BEFORE

Desperate to replicate the success of the Wii's motion controls, Microsoft devised their own peripheral for the Xbox 360 called the Kinect.

The first title that utilised this technology, Kinect Adventures!, seemed revolutionary on the surface, since it relied on the player's voice commands and gestures, rather than a physical controller. If the technology was as smooth as the promotions implied, it could change the future of gaming overnight. So, when Kinect Adventures! became the Xbox 360's best selling game, its legacy seem guaranteed.

But after playing Kinect Adventures! for a few minutes, it was pretty obvious its success was due to overhype rather than quality. The device struggled to recognise the simplest gestures, turning the most straightforward activity into a nightmarish slog. Even when the prompts were recognised, there was a slight delay for them to register, making it nearly impossible to time movements correctly.

Despite this major setback, Microsoft implemented the motion control tech for dozens of titles, many of which had the same issues as Kinect Adventures!

Although the second-gen Kinect for the Xbox One was better at tracking movements, it wasn't precise enough to become the game-changer it could've been.
