10 Biggest Victories #GamerGate Has Achieved So Far
8. #NotYourShield
This was mentioned in a previous article, but is worth bringing up again because its perhaps the most heart-warming of victories: A hashtag dedicated to exposing the diversity of gamers. The name stems from minorities, women, and members of the LGBT community, who claim that they are all individuals, are not to be spoken for - and confidently identify as gamers. The hashtag is also a response to a seemingly large narrative that claims GamerGate is merely a fit of straight, white, and male gamers. Of course, a simple browse through the GamerGate tag on Twitter would instantly disprove this theory and yet many people (especially on Tumblr) think this is the case. The NotYourShield tag only grew in popularity when accusations of sock-puppeting became common among anti-GG advocates. To call a user a sock-puppet is to claim that they dont really believe what theyre saying, or are just fake accounts. This, understandably, resulted in many people taking pictures of them holding inspirational messages relating to the NotYourShield and GamerGate tag, many of which are still being posted. The tag encapsulates the solidarity and diversity of gamers and is a proud sight.
