Was it ever going to be anything else? It's fair to say that the continuation of one of gaming's most beloved franchises was highly-anticipated. It's kind of incredible then, that Mass Effect: Andromeda is better known for its memes and gifs than it is the game itself. Andromeda is the biggest letdown of the current generation, and possibly of all-time.

Everything developer Bioware said about the game pre-launch was enough to have us salivating; the tried and true Mass Effect formula but with more worlds; the return of the Mako; more alien lifeforms; and a family-oriented story tied into a space opera. It sounded perfect.

What we got was a boiled-down version of that with a handful of dull planets, a forgettable story, and a game that ran very poorly. Now, it seems likely that a rushed development cycle, poor management, and the difficulty of the Frostbite Engine are largely to blame for Andromeda's shortcomings, but that doesn't change the simple fact that it was a heartbreaking disappointment through-and-through.
