10 Biggest Video Game Disappointments Of The Generation
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5
Remember when skateboarding games were considered amongst the very best in the medium? Well that was entirely thanks to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series from NeverSoft on the PlayStation 1. The series strayed from its roots during the PS2 generation but retained its fun gameplay loop and added zany characters from Jackass and such.
Then the series took a turn for the simulation. It attempted to be a more serious skating series, with games like Project 8. A few years after that the series changed hands from NeverSoft to Robomodo Era and things took a downward turn. After enduring years of mediocre to bad skating games - and not just in the Tony Hawk series - Activision announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 in 2015.
The series reverting to the original title and numbering got us all tingly inside. Hype was through the roof but what we ended-up with was an absolute mess of a game that sullied the good name of the Pro Skater series. It looks like there's no way back for the Pro Skater series now, and we're still waiting for a decent skateboarding game this generation *drums fingers on desk impatiently*.
