10 Biggest WTF Moments In Super Mario Games
3. All Of Super Mario Bros 2 Was A Dream
This one is WTF for multiple reasons. Firstly, everybody hates the it was all a dream ending. The only person to make that conclusion interesting in the last fifty years was Christopher Nolan, and even he did it by implying it may not be a dream after all. It's a cheap and lazy storytelling twist, not to mention a pointless one, rendering all previous action invalid. To put it in a video game is even more strange and meaningless.
Secondly, though it's well-known that Super Mario Bros 2 for the NES is merely a reskin of the Japanese title Doki Doki Panic, it would have been nice to see Nintendo commit to absorbing this game's world and characters into the Mario series - and, in fact, it actually did, pulling enemies like Shy Guys and Birdo into the main Mario cannon. So... why chicken out and turn the whole thing into a dream?
