10 Bleak Video Game Endings You Can't Escape From
9. Someone Has To Die - A Way Out
A Way Out tells a story of two inmates getting out of jail to enact revenge on a mob boss.
The game’s co-op gameplay is generally considered to be fun, but its ending, on the other hand, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, as it forces you to choose between one awful situation and another.
Long story short, you spend the entire game playing as the two main characters, Vincent and Leo. Each player is responsible for their own character, which is why it is extremely easy to get attached to them over the course of the story and hope they get a good ending.
Unfortunately, A Way Out doesn’t let both players get what they want. In the game’s finale, Leo turns on Vincent, revealing himself to be an undercover cop, and suddenly instead of working together, you’re supposed to fight the other person to the death.
The victor gets to enjoy a bittersweet ending for their character, but considering that the outcome is always the result of killing the other player’s chosen character, the story is basically designed to always end terribly for at least one person.
But hey, at least your buddy gets to have fun…
