10 Bold Predictions For The New Gaming Generation
4. Microsoft Buys Sega & Square Enix
Microsoft has also made it clear as of late that they're making aggressive moves to ensure they don't repeat the key mistake of the Xbox One - a lack of compelling exclusive titles.
In addition to acquiring a number of smaller studios such as Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Obsidian Entertainment, Microsoft shocked the world earlier this year by purchasing Bethesda for $7.5 billion.
Despite this massive spend, Microsoft added that they're interested in buying up more companies to bolster their library moving forward, and so there's virtually no chance they don't make a few more surprise acquisitions in the coming years.
There are a number of potential candidates, but perhaps two of the canniest would be a much-rumoured purchase of Sega, and acquiring Square Enix, which it goes without saying would be a colossal bombshell.
Absorbing these companies would present incredible opportunities for Microsoft to scrape back some of their market share from Sony, and though it remains to be seen how Microsoft will approach exclusivity for multi-platform franchises - whether permanent or time-windowed - it'd expand their war chest significantly.
Just imagine it - future Yakuza and Final Fantasy games hitting Game Pass day-and-date. Chills.
