There are many mediums in the world of pop culture that cross over beautifully, and because of that, we have seen an abundance of impressive creative outings. Whether it be film adaptations of video games, or comic adaptations of films, there is so much synergy within popular culture.

Despite this, one area that has a significant amount of untapped potential is literature. There have been some undeniably influential outings into this concept, with titles such as Dante's Inferno or the incredible Witcher series. But despite already spawning some great games, there is still a wealth of material that could give us some fantastic new experiences.

Too much of a good thing is not a phrase that exists in gaming as there is always room for more, which is why this list calls to look at new places of inspiration.

Now, these ideas feature some well-known and lesser-known works, but the one thing they all share is potential. Were any of these to be created, they could take the gaming and literary world by storm.

Pirate adventure games are always a lot of fun; LucasArts' Monkey Island proves that. We have seen countless great pirate romps over the years, and Treasure Island would easily fit into this same level of swashbuckling fun. The original novel is an absolute classic and has seen a significant amount of adaptation in its lifetime. With so many chances to come alive through the medium of film, TV and theatre, there is no reason that its most iconic adaptation couldn't be a video game.

There are plenty of directions the game could take. Whilst being an iconic story, the narrative of the book is not so dense that it would require a one-lane approach. There is a tonne of potential for an open-world setting that allows the player the freedom to explore the island gathering the titular treasure and interacting with the other crew members of the Hispaniola.

This property has a legacy of being one of the most well known in the literature world, garnering acclaim from audiences of all ages. This game would be a chance to tell this story in an entirely new and unpredictable way.
