If you need proof of just how effective video game music can be at conveying emotion, then look no further than Moon Studios' pitch-perfect platformer Ori And The Blind Forest.

Set in the fantastically vibrant forest of Nibel, this modern Metroidvania-style game sees players explore the forest as adorable spirit Ori. Pushing their platforming and puzzle-solving skills to the limit, players must restore life back to the forest after its heart is destroyed.

The responsive and fluid platforming mechanics and gorgeous art style alone are deserving for the acclaim that's been showered on this collaborative effort. But - like all the other entries on this list - the soundtrack is what gives it that extra push to soar even higher.

Written by English composer Gareth Coker (who began his career working on Minecraft), Ori deploys a 56-piece orchestra to perform the game's emotive score. Drawing inspiration from various multi-cultural musical influences, the score has an ethereal aura to it which can be best exemplified in 'Calling Out', 'Mount Horu', and the majestic 'Light Of NIbel' - which features the voice of Aeralie Brighton.

And if you still need evidence of how breathtaking this score is, just try and get through the opening without tearing-up.
