10 Broken Video Games That Fans Had To Fix

8. Saints Row 2

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Volition

A few months after its console release, Saints Row 2 was ported to PC and almost immediately met with backlash from fans, who decried the poor framerate, atrocious graphical pop-in, and abundance of bugs.

This prompted modder "IdolNinja" to get on the case, who the very same year released the much-loved Gentlemen of the Row mod, which remedied many of the performance issues.

Further still, IdolNinja has continued to release updates to his mod while the regular PC port of Saints Row 2 has become only increasingly unstable over time.

This is due primarily to the 2013 shutdown of the GameSpy multiplayer service, and because the game's source code was believed lost, there was apparently no easy way for developer Volition to dive back into the game and fix things themselves.

However, IdolNinja's final iteration of the mod expanded from fixing bugs to adding weapons, cosmetics, and cheat codes, practically transforming the low-effort PC port into something worthwhile.

Volition did announce back in 2019 that the source code had been discovered and they were planning to fix Saints Row 2 officially, but almost 18 months later it still hasn't come to pass. Boo.
