The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a bizarre addition to the series in which Link has to find a way to wake up from his dream. All the people you meet are a figment of your character’s imagination, but this said, stealing from them will still have very tangible consequences.
One of the most traumatizing things that can happen to you in the game is getting caught stealing by Koholint Island’s shopkeeper.
If you’re a sneaky enough person, it’s possible to grab an item from the vendor’s shop and then walk out without paying before he can react. At this point, you might think that you’ve just committed the perfect crime, however, the next time you come back to the shop, you’ll see that greed does not pay.
The moment you step through the door, the clerk will curse you for stealing from him and then fry Link alive with a loud and terribly flashy lightning zap.
The punishment is genuinely disturbing and can cost you your playthrough, as if you don’t want to be electrocuted, you can never come back to the shop again.
