10 BRUTAL Video Games (Where You Don't Have To Kill Anybody)

8. Cuphead

final fantasy 7 remake
Studio MDHR

One of the most challenging games released in recent years, Cuphead seems intent on killing the player over and over again. A run and gun platformer with an art style inspired by the golden age of cartoons Cuphead is a great title, but almost sadistic in its difficulty. So what if the player elects to turn the other cheek and refrain from violence throughout their playthrough?

Well, it's possible, but a perfect way to make an already difficult game, even more punishing for the protagonist. If the player can manage to navigate their way through Cupheads many levels while avoiding violence they will be rewarded with the pacifist achievement.

However, it is worth noting that while a pacifism achievement is available in-game, the player doesn't have to be totally christ-like in order to receive it. Even if one of the player's parry's results in an enemies death, the challenge isn't voided, and therefore isn't totally impossible, just hugely frustrating, to complete.
